The undesirable effects of burning fossil fuels are well recognized. Supplies are also being used up fast.
Power stations, factories and motor vehicles that use fossil fuels release gases that cause acid rain and contribute to climate change. It has been suggested that this “greenhouse effect” will result in an increase in storms and hurricanes in tropical areas, a decrease in rainfall in the world's major cereal growing areas and a rise in sea levels.
