Winds coming off Lake Huron make the Huron Wind farm one of the better places in Ontario for generating electricity with wind power. The lake is relatively smooth compared to the land around it and large enough to allow the wind to pick up speed.
The Huron Wind site was selected because of good wind speeds and access to the electricity grid. The property was available and it was determined that the project would not effect the environment in an adverse manner. The support of the local community was also an important consideration.
The land was previously used for agriculture and is still available for agriculture. The Huron Wind turbines are extremely safe and normal agricultural activities can be practiced right up to the turbine bases.
In order to improve our global environment we often need to act locally. This wind farm provides a number of local benefits in terms of employment and in terms of its contribution to reducing the effects of climate change for everyone.
